How to Combat Time Bandits

Updated: Jul 17, 2020

At some point, we have all wasted time doing anything BUT the actions that will lead us to success. Some of us identify when it’s happening and do something about it. However, if we do nothing, time bandits can steal our dreams of success.

Here are the top three time bandits that affect the real estate agents and how to combat them:

1. Procrastination

The reason we procrastinate is not always obvious. Sometimes it is due to a fear we are not ready to face while for others it can be as simple as feeling unmotivated. Whatever the reason, it is most important to acknowledge when we are procrastinating and then

take action as soon as possible so we don’t get stuck in a never-ending cycle of procrastination. The danger of not taking action against procrastination right away is that you will build habits that will keep you in the cycle of procrastination longer inevitably having a negative impact on your business goals.

Remember that when you are excited about what you are doing or the goals you are working towards, you will never procrastinate. Make sure you are staying inspired and driven, if you feel yourself fall away from those emotions, it’s time to sit down and

create vision…make a plan for what you want to accomplish in your business.

2. Distractions

Distractions can show up with little warning and before you know it you are spending hours on things that are not generating revenue. Very often distractions can work their way into your daily routine if you don’t have a clear plan, goals, or a vision.

Make sure you have spent the time to create a one year plan and visualize your ideal week and day, track your activity, be clear on what you want to accomplish. Be clear on what are dollar productive versus non-dollar productive activities.

3. Lack of Prioritizing

If you resist prioritizing you will consistently find yourself running out of time. Prioritizing means using time to your advantage to ensure the most important tasks are completed. Without prioritization, tasks can build up and feelings of overwhelm can set in quickly.

You can’t stop your clients and team members from making requests for your time, however, you can prioritize all these requests and opportunities so that you are in control of your time and ultimately your profit.

Within the PointOne module, Designing the Business Fundamentals, you will find a time matrix that will help you organize and prioritize your time. However you choose to prioritize your time, it is most important that you actually do it!
